NetEDI is part of the Department of Health working group for PEPPOL, helping to steer the future development and evolution of PEPPOL in the NHS. The Department of Health is acting as the PEPPOL authority for the NHS in the UK, meaning they are responsible for overseeing the rollout of PEPPOL to NHS trusts and suppliers, and making sure they are compliant with the new requirements.
This is a huge undertaking and our work with DOH has been instrumental in making sure they achieve their aim of ensuring every NHS trust and supplier is part of the same network.
We are proud to say that we have been selected by NHS Supply Chain as their EDI provider and PEPPOL Access Point. We’re in the process of contacting all NHS Supply Chain’s suppliers and making them aware of the change in the rules and how they can comply with the new standard of messaging. So far, we’ve enabled NHS Supply Chain to exchange PEPPOL messages with over 260 of their suppliers.
What is PEPPOL?
PEPPOL is simply an electronic messaging standard used between trading partners. As part of the Department of Health’s Scan4Safety campaign, all NHS trusts will soon be required to adhere to the PEPPOL standard of messaging.
This means that all the messages exchanged between NHS trusts and their suppliers must follow a single standard and be part of the approved network. The main purpose of this change is to allow for the transfer of electronic documents, including orders, invoices and credit notes, across a wide, interoperable network.
By implementing PEPPOL, the trading process will be streamlined and simplified, patient care will be improved, and costs will be cut. There are also clear advantages to suppliers, who should see a reduction in invoice queries and an improvement in purchase to pay timescales.
